Project Challenges and Requirements
As a tropical coastal high-end resort hotel, the project faced four core challenges:
• Extreme climate resistance requirement for coastal environment: Sanya has high temperature, high humidity, and high salt spray year-round. Ordinary carpets are prone to mold, bacterial growth, and fiber salt aging. The carpet requires both the fabric and backing to provide moisture resistance, mold resistance, and salt corrosion resistance.
• Multi-format functional differentiation and unified visual challenge: Public lobby and banquet hall see high foot traffic and require extremely high wear resistance; guest rooms focus on sound insulation and slip resistance; family rooms require custom child-friendly printed patterns; the presidential suite demands high-end handcrafted texture; the entire area needs a unified ocean themed color palette. Coordinating the visual appearance of multiple carpet types is extremely difficult.
• Renovation construction restrictions during hotel operation: The hotel remained fully operational throughout, with no possibility of full closure. Only partial areas and short nighttime construction were allowed. Carpet delivery and installation schedules were extremely strict, and construction could not disturb guests or banquet events.
• International hotel brand quality control standards: Full compliance with Hyatt Group global soft furnishing inspection standards was required: low VOC environmental protection, flame retardancy, wear resistance, color fastness all meeting standards, with complete third-party test reports.

Phase 1: Design Co-creation, Ocean Theme Zone Customization
Dongsheng designer team conducted on-site surveys of the lobby sea view traffic flow, guest room lighting, and banquet hall ceiling height. Based on the hotel's "island, waves, coral" design theme, they created zone-specific carpet solutions:
★ Lobby, public corridors (Axminster carpet): Wave and shallow ripple lines were extracted as simple subtle patterns. The base colors are sea salt gray and sand beige soft earth tones. Large-area seamless weaving provides resistance to foot traffic while complementing the ocean view outside.
★ Standard guest rooms, family rooms (high-definition digital print carpet): Standard guest rooms feature a light blue wave gradient base color, soft and sound-absorbing. Family themed guest rooms have custom child-friendly prints of cartoon corals and tropical fish, with bright, safe, and environmentally friendly colors, suitable for family stays.
★ Banquet hall, meeting rooms (Axminster carpet): Light gold wave subtle texture, composed and grand, improves sound absorption in the space, suitable for weddings and business meetings.
★ Presidential suite, VIP private rooms (hand-tufted carpet with three-dimensional carved pile): Incorporates three-dimensional hand-carved coral and seaweed patterns, with multiple pile heights creating a relief texture, creating a luxurious resort atmosphere.
All products share a unified blue-gray ocean color system. Only the pattern textures are adjusted for different areas, ensuring coherent visual continuity throughout the entire space.
Phase 2: Precise Process Matching to Fit Zone Functions
For different traffic and environmental conditions in various zones, dedicated weaving processes were matched, while also solving the coastal moisture prevention problem:
★ High-traffic public areas (lobby, corridors, banquet hall, meeting rooms): Axminster wear-resistant jacquard process. High-density yarn improves wear resistance. The backing has a moisture-proof and mold-proof coating to resist humidity and salt spray in Sanya's coastal environment.
★ Guest room areas: High-definition digital print carpet. The soft pile enhances sound insulation, providing silent walking with no noise. The printing dyes are formaldehyde-free with low VOC, meeting guest room environmental standards.
★ High-end suites: Hand-tufted three-dimensional carved pile process. Hand-trimmed coral and wave patterns, with layered pile heights enhancing the high-end texture of the space.
★ All carpets underwent more than 20 full tests before leaving the factory: moisture and mold resistance, salt spray aging, flame retardancy, color fastness, wear resistance - all passed Hyatt Group soft furnishing quality control requirements.
Phase 3: Phased Flexible Delivery to Match Staggered Construction
Based on the hotel's phased nighttime construction plan, delivery was split into 3 major batches. A dedicated project team followed up on production, logistics, and arrival throughout:
★ First batch: Banquet hall and meeting room carpets (banquet areas were renovated first, given priority for production and delivery).
★ Second batch: Lobby and public corridor carpets - production advanced in parallel to ensure coordination with the public area installation schedule.
★ Third batch: Standard guest rooms, family rooms, and presidential suite carpets - delivered last to avoid pre-construction contamination of finished carpets.
A dedicated project coordinator was stationed at the Haitang Bay site. Logistics arrival, cutting, and replenishment issues were handled 7×24 hours. If on-site pattern size adjustments were needed, the factory expedited cutting and sent replacement materials the same day.
Phase 4: On-Site Technical Guidance for Installation, Meticulous Execution
After the carpet arrives, Dongsheng's professional installation technical team will be on-site throughout the entire installation process.
• Curved corridors, lobby irregular corners: On-site precise measurement of curves, guiding workers in seamless pattern matching and seaming, ensuring complete and continuous wave patterns with no gaps or color differences.
• Banquet hall and guest room edges and corners: Standardized treatment of carpet edges against walls, door frames, and column bases, eliminating curling or bulging.
• Presidential suite hand-tufted carpet: Dedicated supervision during installation to protect the three-dimensional carved pile from being crushed or damaged.
After all areas were installed, joint acceptance inspection with the hotel engineering department confirmed that wear resistance, installation quality, and color all met standards.
