Client Background
InterContinental Shenzhen Dameisha Resort is a five-star beachfront resort under IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group). The resort is located in Dameisha, eastern Shenzhen, China, close to Hong Kong, with Wutong Mountain behind and the South China Sea in front, boasting a 2-kilometer golden beach.
The resort has 432 sea-view guest rooms, 6 restaurants and bars, 5 indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a 1,020 sqm pillarless grand ballroom and 10 multi-function rooms. It combines beachfront holidays, high-end banquets and business events, focusing on coastal leisure and upscale business hospitality.
Project Challenges and Requirements
• Harsh coastal environment: The air near the sea has high salt content and is humid all year round. The carpet must resist mould, salt corrosion and fading from sunlight, suitable for the special seaside climate.
• Complex spatial structure: Many curved and irregular shapes in guest room corridors and elevator lobbies. Curved layouts greatly increase the difficulty of pattern matching, cutting and installation.
• Different functions in different zones: Corridors and the banquet hall see heavy foot traffic, so the carpet must be highly wear-resistant. Guest rooms need a quiet, soft foot feel. Restaurants and the sea-view bar call for a three-dimensional, light luxury artistic texture.
Our Solutions and Service Process
Phase 1: On-site survey and zone-based custom design
Dongsheng designers visited the hotel and, based on its seaside positioning, adopted a unified light sea-toned colour scheme throughout the space, with two types of solutions:
★ Banquet hall, public corridors, guest rooms (Axminster carpet):
The banquet hall uses warm vintage patterns, suitable for both the solemnity of conferences and the festive atmosphere of banquets. Guest rooms follow a warm Nordic simple style with plenty of blank space and simple textures, creating a cosy home-like feel. The curved corridors use abstract wave-line patterns, with pattern layouts customised in advance according to the curves.
★ Chinese and Western restaurants, sea-view bar (hand-tufted wool carpet):
Cool minimalist colours combined with three-dimensional carved marine motifs. The thick wool pile enhances the light luxury texture, while the colour scheme is consistent with the Axminster carpet in public areas, ensuring visual continuity throughout the hotel.
Phase 2: Process optimisation and strict factory quality control
All Axminster carpets were woven with a thicker construction, and an anti-moisture, anti-salt-corrosion coating was added to the backing to improve wear resistance and moisture protection, suitable for the humid coastal environment. For the curved corridors, 1:1 installation drawings were issued in advance to ensure precise pattern matching of the finished products.
For the bar and restaurant areas, New Zealand wool was selected for hand-tufting, with three-dimensional hand-carved pile. The surface was treated with colour-fast and anti-UV treatment to prevent fading from seaside sunlight.
All products passed full tests for mould resistance, wear resistance, flame retardancy and salt corrosion resistance before leaving the factory, meeting IHG quality standards.
Phase 3: Two-batch flexible production scheduling and smart delivery
The project team split delivery into two batches, with a site coordinator following up:
★ First batch: Axminster carpets for guest rooms, banquet hall and corridors - produced and delivered first.
★ Second batch: Hand-tufted carpets for the Chinese and Western restaurants and sea-view bar - delivered to match the final stage of hard decoration, and kept in sealed, dust-proof storage on arrival.
Phase 4: On-site installation guidance throughout, solving curved-area challenges
The Dongsheng technical team stayed on site throughout installation:
For curved corridors and elevator lobbies, they measured the curves on site and cut the carpet precisely to ensure seamless pattern joining. In the banquet hall and guest rooms, they paid special attention to edge finishing against walls and columns. For the hand-tufted bar carpet, they used special tools during installation to avoid crushing the three-dimensional carved pile. The whole project was completed and accepted in 20 days.
Client Feedback and Evaluation
Using only two carpet types - Axminster and hand-tufted wool - the project perfectly withstood the humid, salt-laden seaside environment of Dameisha. The public areas are wear-resistant and durable, the guest rooms are quiet and comfortable underfoot, and the hand-tufted carpet in the sea-view bar has become a highlight of the space. The final effect perfectly matches the coastal resort positioning and exceeded our expectations.
