Axminster Carpet Design & Weaving Production Process

Dongsheng Carpet manufactures custom Axminster carpet, with solutions built for hotel Axminster carpet projects, ballrooms, airports, casinos, cinemas and other large-scale commercial construction projects.
This footage covers the full Axminster carpet weaving process at Dongsheng, including design teams discussing carpet patterns, yarn preparation in the workshop, production on large-scale looms, and the formation of the carpet pile surface.
Axminster carpets adopt a woven cut pile construction. Pile yarns are interlocked with the carpet base structure through the weaving process, and patterns are woven directly into the carpet body with yarns of different colours, rather than printed onto the finished surface.
Axminster Carpet Specifications
Dongsheng adjusts product specifications based on project application areas, foot traffic intensity and design requirements.
Pile Material
Standard wool nylon Axminster carpet uses an 80% wool / 20% nylon blend. The wool-to-nylon ratio can be adjusted to match project requirements, with a maximum nylon content of 40%.
Weave Density (Pitch × Rows)
Available Axminster carpet density options include 7×7, 7×8, 7×9 and 7×10. The appropriate density can be selected based on foot traffic levels across different areas such as guest rooms, corridors and ballrooms.
Pile Height
5–10 mm, with 7–10 mm being the most commonly used range.
Pile Weight
1000–1700 g/m², determined by project usage intensity and product construction.
Pattern & Color Customization
Custom designs based on provided artwork are supported, with a maximum of 16 colours per design.
Weaving Width
Maximum 4 m.
Backing Construction
Base weaving materials such as PP or jute can be selected based on product structure, along with applicable SBR/EVA backing coatings or post-treatment solutions.

Project Procurement & Quality Requirements
For high-traffic commercial spaces, it is recommended that buyers verify weave density, pile weight, backing construction and relevant performance test documentation alongside pattern and colour confirmation, rather than only comparing per-square-metre prices.
Depending on the project’s host country and applicable requirements, flame retardant test documentation such as ASTM E648 Class I, EN 13501-1 Cfl-s1, as well as abrasion resistance and colour fastness test reports can be provided. Actual compliance ratings shall be subject to valid test reports for the corresponding product.
As an established Axminster carpet manufacturer, Dongsheng supports custom sampling and bulk production for engineering projects. Physical samples typically take around 7 days. Standard bulk production lead time for Axminster carpet is approximately 30–45 days. The minimum order quantity is confirmed based on pattern, material, specifications and order volume.
